Our
Story

Cubing Enrichment Opportunities began with a Rubik’s Cube and a future teacher.

In 2006, while studying education in college in Minnesota, our founder learned how to solve the Rubik’s Cube for the first time. What started as a personal challenge quickly became a powerful teaching tool: one that revealed how structured problem-solving, persistence, and incremental progress could build confidence and focus in learners of all ages.

In 2013, that idea moved into the classroom with the launch of the first after-school Rubik’s Cube club at a middle school in Omaha, Nebraska. The club quickly showed that students who struggled with traditional academic tasks could thrive when given a clear system, a tangible goal, and the space to persevere.

As student interest grew, so did opportunities for competition and community. In 2016, Cubing Enrichment Opportunities hosted its first World Cube Association (WCA) competition at St. Mary’s University in Omaha. This event marked a turning point: connecting students to the broader competitive cubing world and demonstrating the value of structured, competition-ready instruction.

Over the following years, Cubing Enrichment Opportunities organized and supported multiple WCA competitions across the Midwest and Minnesota, helping expand access to competitive cubing while maintaining a strong educational focus.

After returning to Minnesota, Cubing Enrichment Opportunities evolved into a broader education program provider: offering summer camps, school programs, and international workshops. Today, Cubed Communities delivers structured Rubik’s Cube education in partnership with schools, universities, and organizations across the United States, The Bahamas, Barbados, and Belize, while continuing to develop scalable, licensed programs for long-term impact.

What began as a single cube has grown into a global effort to help students think critically, persist through challenges, and gain confidence...one solve at a time.
